DVD Set of “Snakebites in the New Millennium: A State-of-the-Art Symposium”
A 7-DVD set includes all the platform presentations from “Snakebites in the New Millennium: A State-of-the-Art Symposium,” an international symposium on native and non-native venomous snakes and snakebite held at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in October, 2005.
The symposium featured researchers and experts from 22 states and six countries. David Warrell, M.D., professor of tropical medicine at Oxford University and a world authority on tropical venomous snakes, was the keynote speaker.
Topics highlighted included recent advances in our understanding of the genetic development of venomous snakes and their venom, snakebite epidemiology, antivenom development, clinical management of snake envenomation, and improvements in our non-native snakebite response system.
The DVD set includes a book of the symposium abstracts and the printed PowerPoint® slides. Continuing education credit is also available through UNMC's Center for Continuing Education.

I attended this symposium and was extremely impressed with the material. The highlight for me personally was getting to meet David Warrell. If you purchase the DVD's, you get to hear and see all of his lectures. There was quite a bit of other info that venomous snake enthusiasts, scientists and medical personnel as well will find extrememly informative. Quality stuff. You won't be disappointed.

I've heard a lot of good things about this symposium so ordered my set last week. I had originally planned to attend, but was unable to make it due to a death in the family. According to the website, If you order before production begins at the end of this month, January, the cost for the complete set is only $85. Once production begins the cost will increase to $100 or more. There is an additional charge of $80 for the 12 hours of CME credit, if you want them.

Hi: I've read several articles here about the confusion of medical personnel when confronted with snakebite. Though snakebite is something many physicians in North America will never seem, it would undoubtedly be useful for for physicians familiar with envenomations to develop and approve a universal flowchart type protocol to be distributed to EMS, hospitals and clinics in the US. Yes, different snakebites require different treatments, but some guidelines would undoubtedly help physicians to "do no harm." This would benefit everyone.

I keep trying to get to the link, but every link I click on having to do with this symposium won't work. Anyone know of any other ways to order it? I'm getting into venomous snakes and I'd really like to get these DVD's.
