SwampY's Baby Pictures

This is a beautiful Sistrurus miliarius barbouri, or dusky pigmy rattlesnake, which was given to me by Karl Betz. Today, August 8, 2001, she made me the foster parent to nine bouncing baby pigmy rattlesnakes. Thanks Karl!

Mama compared to baby. The baby shown can coil on a quarter with room left over. It can be tubed in a soda straw! Total length about 5-6 cm!

All nine babies transferred to a tank with moist paper towels. This serves to hydrate them as well as clean the babies. They should shed in about 2-3 days and eat within one week. The babies have fully developed fangs, venom glands, and a healthy supply of venom.

Mama ate about four hours after the last baby was born and is doing fine!

I'm a happy SwampY :)
