ZOOKEEPER I/II - REPTILES

The responsibilities of this position include providing for the safety and daily care of animals in the Reptile Area of the Zoo. This position includes work with venomous and non-venomous reptiles, amphibians, aquarium work and some small mammals. Applicants must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and must possess good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Manual work is involved. This is an excellent opportunity for a competent individual interested in working in a progressive environment that wishes to grow with the zoo. High school diploma or equivalent is required and a college degree in the Life Sciences is preferred. Also, documented venomous reptile experience is necessary and elapid experience is preferred. Zookeeper - II requires at least two years of paid experience equivalent to that of a Zookeeper - I in the City of Abilene. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record, as a driving record check will be required for this position. Pay scale for this overtime eligible position is $1,596.62 per month and $736.90 bi-weekly for Zoo Keeper - I, and $1,897.69 per month and $875.85 biweekly for a Zoo Keeper - II.
