Hi!!. I just recently became US permanent resident, with right to work. I earned a PhD in Biology in Armenia (2001). I like herps very much, and I have and a lot of experience in herpetological conservation, science,as well as in captive care, husbandry and medicine of herps, including venomous snakes. I have a family to support, so I'm looking for a job. I will be grateful for any advise.

I have approximately 3 years of experience as an apprentice for Tom Hudak (recently retired from the herp business) of Scales and Tails in Rochester, New York. My experience includes several hundred logged hours working with and learning about both venomous and non-venomous reptiles. This position includes work with venomous and non-venomous reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, freshwater and marine aquariums, and some small mammals. The position requires strong observation and communication skills. Must have the ability to perform a variety of physical work and be comfortable working in a team environment. Zookeeper responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the daily care of the animal collection, record keeping, animal enrichment, monitoring behavior and changes in health, maintaining holding and exhibit areas, and informal interactions with Zoo visitors. Other duties include providing assistance in administering veterinary care, specimen field collection, and maintaining area facilities and equipment. Hours are based on a 40-hour workweek and based upon established Zoo operating hours including weekends and holidays. This is an excellent opportunity for competent individuals to participate in the construction and opening of the zoo’s new Herpetarium. Applicants must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and must possess good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Manual work is involved.
