Hi All:
Well I used to keep them in my LOCKED snake escape proof bedroom when I was in an Apartment. The snakes were housed in Vision or Precision Cages with locks. It still caused me nighmares not for my safety but for others.
I live in a house now and built a custom room in the Barn on the property. The room is 10x13 ft. A/C in the summer, heated and humidified in the winter. Exhaust fan for air circulation (weather permitting) with all precautions taken to prevent escape. Door is double-deadbolt locked and all cages are locked for additional security. Each cage has independant heaters and misting system depending on the snake contained. I may next year, make an adjoining room that will have large custom enclosures for BIG Hots I may add in the future.
Cheers!
Al

I used to keep the dogs in the same room as my snakes. Then as my collection of snakes grew, and started to include hots, I relocated the dogs. Now that room is the snake room. One night a while ago, before I relocated the dogs, we were awoken to a frantically barking dog. I shot out of bed like a spring (at that time I had my first hot- a copperhead. So all the worst thoughts went through my mind when I heard the dog barking) and ran into the room. One of the dogs had discovered my milksnake that had escaped and been missing for three days deep in the closet. The poor dog was shaking like a leaf and had not harmed the snake. The snake had escaped due the fact that the tank's cover had been partially melted from a lamp. Since then I am much more careful about keeping all of the enclosures secure.

I keep all my herps in my room. My mother wouldn`t have it any other way. In about 1.5 years I`ll be moving out cause I`m going to college and I`m taking all of them with me. Right now, I have some of the non-vens, my tarantula, my Trachemys, the hooks, moisturizer on a wooden rack on the wall right above my bed. All my 7 hots are right next to my bed in secure enclosures. My iguana enclosure sits on my desk. I modified 2 parts of my desk and made verry cool terrariums out of them where I keep my aesculapian rat snakes and my whip snakes. And finaly, I keep my tortoises next to my rooms window. Oh...my european terrapins are next to the desk. That`s about it...so far. Take care all. Cheers, Alex S.

When I had my parents move in with me, I gave them the masterbedroom, brother smallest room. I decided to move down to the basement and let the snakes have the other bedroom. My only problem is that my collection keeps growing and my house is getting smaller. Best part of it all is the fact that when I was living at home I always got the "You'll never have a snake in my house" But now mom and dad are living in the my(snakes) house.

My centerpiece snake EDB (named Klauth) sits in front of my couch in the living room, in a pen I built to also serve as my coffee table. No reason the snake shouldn't be able to contribute to the overall comfort.
