WOW I am disgusted to say the least. is there anything we can do? these are the things we really need to protect our precious wildlife from. I can't belive what I seen in those PICS. KIDS touching rattlesnakes people were enjoying themselfs. and they probably consider themselves good christian folks LOL. all for what a good time some skins for the belt and hat trade. and at the end just a huge mass slaughter. and to think people around here critisize me for keeping the occasional copper from around here for breeding projects.

Joe:
Yeah I am appalled at what the States allow people to do to animals, yet they bust our ass and all we want to do is keep a collection of our own. I'm not sure what we can do not being a resident of the state other than the following:
Circulate a petition and send it to the OK State house saying we are horrified at what they allow people to do to these snakes on an annual basic. It's anti-enviromental and cruel and inhumane to kill them like they do.
Fund raise and join with other wildlife organizations, so we can take them to court next year and at least get an Injunction to stop the hunt till an environmental impact assment could be made. We should do this in ANY State that allows this to occur.
Send a copy to the interior department & EPA and tell them to do something about protecting the snakes.
If you go into any store, anywhere you travel that displays the products from these slaughters, heads, skins..etc.. walk up to the manager and tell them why your not going to purchase ANYTHING from a store that sells this kind of products.
Anybody else have any ideas??
Al

I recently moved to Abilene, Texas. I am but a mere 40 miles from Sweetwater, Grand-daddy of all rattlesnake roundups. It was just held this past weekend, and the front page of the Sunday paper here was a full page shot of some yokel handling a diamondback and glorifying the roundup. Trust me folks, the days are numbered for these roundups, they really are. Sadly, my position prevents me from saying too much on the matter, but I'm sure it doesn't take anyone with an IQ over that of a Hostess Twinkie to know how I really feel about it.
