Really the only book that specifically covers captive care is, "Rattlesnakes : Their Natural History & Care in Captivity" by Jerry G. Walls. If you look in the "Reviews" section of this website, you'll see that many people give it an unfavorable rating. I think mainly though, their issues are with the taxonomy. Mr. Walls single-handedly renames the genus Sistrurus back to Crotalus, and is not qualified to do so. However, as far as the captive care portion of the book, I really don't have any major qualms with it, and it's pretty good starter information. It's also not that expensive, and the photos in the book are worth the price.

Charper,
I've had boas (and have a 7 footer now), but just found a northern pacific rattler last night while walking, about 18 inches long, looks healthy. I'd like to keep him. Right now he is in my room in a 30 gallon tank with a black screen top held down with weights. He has water and a hide box, and is becoming quite active. Any suggestions how I can keep him correctly.
I suppose I need some tongs and a hook, and a capture box. I would appreciate any of your expertise.
Thanks,
Bob
