When a front fanged snake stikes and bites I was woundering when do they start to inject/release their venom,ie:when the fangs make contact with skin of their prey/predator and continue injecting during penatration,or do they wait until there fangs have penatrated or reached there maximum depth.Obviuosly the larger the fang the greater the depth the quicker the venom will be obsorbed into the body,ie:IM will disperse venom quicker as SC and IV will move it like a freight train.Any insight on this will be much appreciated, its most probably a simple question to answer. Thanks

Hey,
One way to think of this is in terms of high/low pressure. Front-fanged snakes being the high pressure system and rear-fanged snakes being the low pressure system.
The musculature of the front-fanged snakes is designed to inject a great deal of venom very quickly. In the blink of an eye, to be exact. Of course, they can control this. I've seen pics of rattlers striking, with some venom dripping out even before they hit their target.
A rear-fanged snake, ont he other hand, hasn't the mechanics or musculature to do this and must chew to "leak" the venom into its target.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Roger
