Is a snakes body tempature the same as, higher, or lower than the air tempature? If it is higher or lower, by how much? Can I check a snakes tempature using a rectal thermometer?

It seems that most snakes temperature is slightly warmer than its surroundings generally 2-6 degrees depending on its environment and the size of the snake may aswell depend on its temperature but if it were to suddenly warm up there may be a brief period when the snakes temperature is cooler than its environment.
If you have a digital touch thermometer you can read a snakes temperature.
