Being from TX, probably a northern copperhead. There are some copperhead species in your area, so your hospitals should have the appropriate antivenin on hand and your physicians should have a protocol for treating copperhead envenomations. The northern in not the sub species native to your area, but tend to be less defensive then the board band and/or the transpecos. Also resent venom research is showing the western sub species to pack a more toxic venom, making them less desirable as a beginner snake. Have you already stocked up on the provisions you will need?
If there are other people in your home, you will need a cage you can lock, keeping the snake in and people out. I use Neodesha myself, putting a lock in one side. You will also need couple snake hooks. The Midwest 40” is the most popular. You can order those from www.tongs.com . You will need something like a tall bucket or trash can to move your snake over to while you do cage maintenance. CroFab is the AV of choice for copperhead envenomation, thought it is not often used for simple copperhead envenomation. It is far too expensive to try to keep on hand, something like $1100/dose. So make sure you have a local health care facility that keeps it on hand and research yourself a bite protocol. Do not assume every physician is going to know what to do, many never treat a snake bite. Good luck, if you decide to get into venomous Herpetoculture, please feel free to ask us lots of questions.
