Can anyone help to id this snake?

uh I know it's not venomous but I don't know where else to ask...I cannot find it on google

That would be a lined snake, Tropidoclonium lineatum. Check the belly for a double row of bold black half-moon markings. Favorite food is earthworms.
BTW, I've never been to Kansas & have never seen one of those snakes. A good field guide is a wonderful thing.

Thanks for the ID. By the way the snake didn't make it :(.
I guess I should get myself a field guide - I use Internet for most of the stuff but sometimes it's just not enough.
One more question - Do you have any suggestions what book to look for? I'd love to get one, not too pricey though...

Petra: The book ``Snakes of North America`` by Alan Tennant is an excellent field guide for Eastern and Central North America. Even though new ones sell for $29.95, you should be able to find a used copy on Amazon.com for quite a bit less. Hope this helps.

Another excellent field guide is the one on reptiles & amphibians of the eastern U.S. by Roger Conant. It is in the Peterson Field Guide series.
