Hello all, I have a quick question. I came across a Florida box turtle and my son breed it with his Eastern Box.
#1 Do you guys think they can cross?
#2 The Florida Box got away from my son and I'm hoping it will survive in Iowa??? What do you think?
Thanks for your input.

Yes, they can cross.
Yes, it will probably / could survive the winter as long as it finds a way to burrow below the frost line, say in leaf / mulch piles, or into dirt mounds or animal burrows, before the first freezing weather.
The animals circadian cycles will be telling it when it should seek winter refuge, however, Northern climates get cold early in the year. Wether it can sense the coming cold and hibernate early, or not, is difficult to know.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ
