Woman Calls 911 After Snake Tries To Get Into Home
POSTED: 8:14 am EDT August 1, 2008
UPDATED: 10:18 am EDT August 1, 2008
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Orange County woman said a snake trapped her inside her house and calling 911 did not help.
The aggressive snake showed up on Doreen Losi's porch Thursday morning. She said it followed her to the front door and tried to get in through the door and a window.
Doreen thought it was a poisonous water moccasin and called 911. Since it was not inside her house, it was not considered an emergency. She also called several other government agencies.
"I've never been so intimidated by a snake," said Losi.
As of Thursday night, the snake had not been caught. Orange County Animal Services said that in these situations the owner can hire a private trapper to remove the snake

Amazing !
The news folks come out and take a bunch of photos of the harmless water snake, and then they say that no one has been able to catch it ?
Just reach down and pick it up !
Or, take a broom and shoo it into a garbige can turned on its side.
What a bunch of nit-whits !
Best Regards John Z

This story is just another example of how the media blows these stories up to ridiculous levels. There is no was a snake is going to chase someone into their house and try to get in through the window. i just read this story and laugh. Yeah....snakes are just always chasing people around....really?

I can't tell you how many times people have tried to tell me about being chased by a snake... especially black racers, which are almost more feared hereabouts than anything. All I can say is, after more than 40 years of chasing snakes around, I sure wish they'd chase me once in a while, it would make life a lot easier.
Invariably these people take great offense when I say that snakes just don't chase people... what reason could they possibly have for doing this? What would they have to gain, besides a miserable death? What would the water snake have done with the lady if it caught her? She's obviously much too big to eat. Maybe she built her house in the snake's favorite former path to the water, or maybe she just smelled like fish...

You know, if I was a 911 operator, and someone used this emergency service because a Water Snake was outside, or they saw a spider on the floor inside, I'd have them arrested for abuse of the service. I know that people here in SC have been arrested and charged after calling 911 for non-emergency situations, like their six-year-old kid talking back to them or the dog pooping on the floor(I'm not making those up, either). A Water Snake is no more a real emergency than that. While this idiot woman was tying up the 911 lines with her phobia, someone could have been having a heart attack, or their home could be under invasion by some psycho with a gun, or they could have just discovered the neighbor's two-year-old lying face-down on the bottom of their pool. There are enough legitimate emergencies to deal with without having to cope with some ignoramus' phobia.

This just shows how most people view snakes, it is an up hill battle to educate the public about snakes. We must be willing to step in when ever we can and make known just what the truth is about these beautiful animals and how they can be a benefit man kind. The way most people view these mysterious cheaters is deeply set in folklore and upbringing. To educate the public should be each one our goals. Any way we can help to benefit our hobby should be a given. Get out there and do what you can for the hobby before legislation stops us all!!!
