I was just noticing that there are a lot of photos in the Snakes for Identification Section of the Photo Album that are waiting to be identified.
If anyone gets a chance, see what you can do to put a label on some of these.
Best Regards

1. The Mauritanian Cerastes cerastes is exactly that
2. The putative Hearald snake is indeed that, Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia
3. The Indian "snake in house" is Xenochrophis piscator, chequered keelback, a harmless colubrid
4.The "Modjeska Canyon, Orange County, (southern) California" photo shows Crotalus viridis and sure as hell wasn't taken in California
5. The "Snake killed by locals in Nigeria" is defninitely not Pseudohaje - I would guess Boiga blandingi, but need to check
6. The "unidentified snake in Costa Rica" is a Leptodeira, looks like Leptodeira annulata to me.
Cheers,
WW

Cro, what is the procedure for submitting responses to "Snakes for Identification?" It doesn't look as if it's possible to type a response directly into the caption (probably a good thing!), so whom do we notify? Or have I missed something obvious?
Also, I hate to make any complaints about my favorite site, but it would be so nice if the photo galleries were easier to navigate. For example, it would be great to be able to go directly to a given page without having to click through each one, and it would also be great to be able to search the galleries by species or photographer. I know it's a lot of work for someone, so I want to tread lightly here. I really like the new categories, especially the different C. horridus phases.
And thank you, Dr. Wuster, for the very authoritative ID's. (Maybe we should just let him handle all of them!! As if he has time!). By the way, WW, if you're still there... someone in another thread raised the question of whether scale counts have been known to differ between C. horridus and what has until recently been described as C.h. atricaudatus? I'm sure you can answer this if anyone can...
All the best!

Wolfgang, thanks for helping with the identifications !
Fred, as far as submitting responses to the Snakes for Identification, for now, it is best to post them here, and I will transfer them to the photos. You have to be set up as a site manager to directly edit the photos.
I agree that the photo galleries are difficult to navagate. A lot of that probably has to do with the 10 year old code that this site is built on. Perhaps changes could be made that would allow searching and easier navigation, I am just not sure how locked in we are with things like that. I am sure that Bravenet has made many changes to the features available to webmasters over the years, but I am not sure how easily those changes could be used to update the site.
Best Regards

I have edited as WW has indicated. FSB, check out the Photo Album, and there is one named "Snakes For Identification".
If site managers edit these photos, please put the correct name of the snake in the subject line.

Ron, just what snake are you asking about? That link you posted takes us to about 20 photos.
Do you have a photo on the Snakes For Identification part of the Photo Albums here that you are trying to ID ?
Best Regards
