Gerald,
It's great to see someone take initiative in trying to find that ultimate herp job (I personally think I already found it!). Just a few helpful hints:
1) When inquiring about positions, make sure you double check your grammar, sentence structure, etc....even posts like your's will be closely scrutinized by people who are hiring. This may sound very nit picky but as someone who hires reptile keepers at my little zoo, I am looking for folks with excellent communication skills.
2) Check the AZA web site. Most of the good jobs are posted there.
3) Just keep at it...it takes a lot of drive, determination, persistence and fortitude to find that job - it won't come to you so you have to go after it but have a strategy, a well worded resume that shows your expderience. Also, NETWORK as much as possible.

Gerald,
I was hired by a zoo 2 years ago.
I had thirty years experience with venomous and over forty years experience with nonvenomous reptiles.
I had a resume meticulously crafted specifically targeting the job on expensive resume paper.
I showed up for all my interviews in nice clothes (button down dress shirt, nice slacks, tie) and a fresh haircut.
After I got the job, I grew my hair out, pierced my ears and now wear snake-poop stained khakis to work everyday.
The point is that if my resume had not been meticulous in spelling, format, grammar, etc, none of the rest of this would have mattered. The HR director would have looked at my resume and probably would not even have called me.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Make yours a great one.
All of Rob's advice is top-notch. Even where to look for the job listings.
Good Luck.

Sorry, wasn't ignoring the post; my computer is just now back up after moving. Fire me an email and I'll be glad to give a few pointers too. Unless it is something that we'd like to answer and put into the FAQ section?
