Al, how do you figure I was a participant? And I do not mean that as a rhetorical question. I really want you to explain how you figure I had anything to do with that? Is anyone involved in this my child? No. Was I in charge of them? No, and I was very clear about that to Phillip and Jeremy’s mothers. We took a trip together and that was the extent of it. I was no more responsible for that then I would have been if you decided you wanted to get that cobra out. It was not my store, it was not my snake. I did not get the snake out, suggest getting the snake out, or even touch that stupid snake. Now, I did buy a cobra from those same guys for a friend of mine. Now, that was my snake till I delivered it and everyone wanted to get it out in the motel room and in the field to get pics, but ask them if it happened? My cobra did not leave the bag from the time I put it in there till I delivered it. I am not implying you are wrong in your opinion, in fact we are in accord on the subject. My problem is the way you addressed it and the rift you stirred up with those guys. That is pointless and counter productive. If you figure the solution is name calling and refusing to help people when they ask, I reckon you are right. I will probably never be a part of that solution.
I bet everyone in this society has a picture with a snake, that was taken for no reason other then just to have the picture. I have no problem with that. It’s part of what we all enjoy. Our folk hero, Bill Haast, allowed photos of himself as a teenager holding a timber in his lap to be published in a book. Is this not the same situation we are discussing here? Why is no one casting dispersions on Bill? Cause he is the godfather, that is why! Someday Phillip or Jeremy might achieve that same status.
Being a part of a Society implies a certain amount of dignity among the members. I want to see that dignity. I am tired of the trivial bickering and name calling. We are a society or we are not. I have made concessions to be a member. Many times I have had to hold back what I would really like to say, this is a prime example here. I have had to exclude pictures of myself that do not meet this society’s handling standards. If I can do that, anyone can. Lets get back to unity.
Yes, Phillip and Jeremy have worked snakes in my lab. They were collecting, working, and keeping venomous before I ever met them. I have worked with them both. Showed them safer means of moving, bagging, ect. Of course, Al thinks its better to let them keep holding the bag with their hands rather then train them, but I don’t see it that way….and I don’t reckon I ever will.
And I final point, if you lack the courage to post who you are, why don’t you keep your opinions to yourself.

Phil,
You really catch Kings in your back yard? Ummmm last time I checked they are not in our geographic location. So if you find them in Georgia I think you should let proper authorites know.

So, Chuck, let me see if I've got this right. The venomous community is supposed to sit back and say nothing when teenagers are posing for pictures of themselves handling king cobras while adults just stand there? For the sake of "unity"? As far as I'm concerned, Al carries himself quite well. You ought to take a look at the image YOU'RE portraying. As for you, Jeremy and Phillip, while I think it's great that you're into hot snakes, if you think you've been criticized so far (justified), it'll seem like kisses from your girlfriend compared to the flaming you're in for if you get tagged (God forbid) and survive. To me, there's two types of "cool" when it comes to venomous: 1)being fascinated by caring for snakes in their natural form, and 2)posing for "Hey, look at me" pictures. I'll leave it to the two of you to figure out which one's best. You've got your entire lives to learn how to work with snakes; by far, the best way is to watch and learn from a mentor.

That is not what I am saying at all, in fact if you read what I said, I am in accord with Al. I like Jeremy and Phillip. I do not want them hurt. I have talked to them both about safety and the issues of free handling. My problem with Al is how he broached the subject. He accomplished nothing and lead to all of this mud throwing. He got Harrison involved and we don’t need that. He has the name, we need him on the forefront of the real battles we face, not wasting his time debating Phillip over trivial crap. The thread that Al killed was suppose to be about the ban in KY, that was important subject matter that had to be closed due to his off topic and off color remarks. And do a little research before you post, I have been bit.

I believe this topic about Jermey and Phillip has been beat to death and then some. They seem to be good kids who have an interest in the same snakes that the rest of us members have. Lets give this thing a rest. It has been 2 days now of bickering. This site is about continous education and unanswered questions. I know the hook and holding techniques may not be the safest in the world, and thats where we give advise on the correct ways. Thankfully, nothing happened to either of these young lads. So, lets just find another topic to answer and discuss. Bryan

Morning all:
Chuck, One thing we agree on is that if you say something on this forum you should have the GUTS to put your name to it. I also hate "Snipers".
Chuck, I felt yesterday morning this had to stop too. It has reached the point of being very unproductive so I will not reply to your counter-point posting.
This is an open forum and the folks that got involved did so of their own valition.
I posted this yesterday morning on the "Reckless/criminal behavior" thread. I am posting it below for all to see that may have missed it in the fracus.
---------------------------------------------------
Well...
This has been quite a blood bath..everybody has their "FANG OUT" and putting them to work. I ask everyone to please..step back and cool down.
The origional intent was not to demean Jeremy or Phillip. They were just examples, just like others have used in this thread. If GOD had a profile on SHHS I'm sure someone one would have pulled it into the frey. The actions of the adults in the picture is what really bothers me. Just one of the symptoms of our plight.
The point was the hobby is in serious KIM CHEE and we need to mobilize to try to save whats left. I have not lost sight of what it's like to be 17, remember, I was bitten by a horridus at 17 because I refused to listen and of course knew better than the adults. I came to my senses and did not keep or handle a HOT snake till I was finished with college. So, I speak from experience. Robert is very correct regarding what you do now will haunt you forever.
What is needed NOW is for people to keep a very close eye on their State houses for activity that effects US as a group. Matt and I are flat out with the AV Bank which we hope to duplicate and spread out to cover as many states as possible. It's formation will be the cornerstone of any defense we mount against BANS. We need a National Organization to unite our Banner against those who would ban our hobby. WE need a LEADER to step forward to take this and run with it.
Sincerely,
Al Coritz
