Hey guys,
Do you remember me asking about delta shipping while ago?
Well someone gave me the link to delta site and told me that is all I need to became verified shipper. After that several of you told me delta is not providing this any more.
Well being a curious me I tried to fill it up anyways - it's not that I don't trust you - I was more curious what is delta going to say, they reasoning why (didn't plan on arguing with them don't take me wrong I was just interested)
The only thing I didn't expect actually happened - after I filled it up I thought I will just receive an email saying sorry - instead a person contacted me by phone and gave me # to call to schedule a visit. When I called there I explained to them that I would like to ship live venomous reptiles and they said OK and showed up here the next day. I still thought that maybe they made a mistake and when I'll tell the person I want to ship venomous he will leave. I was wrong again. I filled up and signed some papers and gave him proof of address(a bill) that I live here. That was it. I still kind of didn't believe it could be this easy. Well today I got an email stating I'm approved with an user id and password.
So I guess it is still possible and you guys who were trying to get verified and been told that they don't do it any more may try again.

Petra,
I'm not surprised that it worked for you, but my experience has been that it depends on the Delta Cargo location. I tried to get verified 3 years ago but I have a unique situation. I live in upstate NY, 45 miles below Albany. Unfortunately, Albany Co. has a Dept. of Health Ban on venomous--Delta at Albany will not ship venemous. I can however ship from LaGuardia, and at that time, I had a letter of authority from NJ Fish and Wildlife to ship venomous snakes from Newark Airport. Since I wanted to ship from Newark, I stopped at their office (which was next to NW Air Cargo, which I normally would use, as I think their service is superior to Delta, and they will actually hold the boxes in their office to keep them warm...unlike Delta...but that's another story)...
Anyway, I filled out the forms, etc. but when I called Newark to schedule the appointment, they told me to call Albany, since it was closer.....I called Albany..they said "You're shipping from Newark...they need to do the inspection"...Called Newark "Your beyond X number of miles, we don't go that far, Call Albany".......and so on and so on......
Also, there were inconsistencies between LaGuardia and Newark when they would inspect the boxes. LGA would NOT accept a venomous shipment, that didn't have the metal strapping on the outside. EWR sometimes would, sometimes would not. I get shipments from FL that are SINGLE BOXED (WHEN THEY SHOULD BE DOUBLED BOXED) and un-banded as well.....which doesn't meet Delta Standards.
So, its not surprising that you got verified. That it happened so quickly, IS surprising...but I'd say that you are the exception, and not the norm. If we all lived in big cities, within 30 min of the airports, I'd say most everyone would get verified. But if you live more than 1/2 hr away...you're unlikely to get verified. The simple solution....SHIP NW Air Cargo, if you're an unverified shipper.

Hey Petra, I am glad to hear that you have become a known shipper. I am the one who gave you the link to the on-line application form and explained how it works. I would like to let you know one more thing, make sure that you use Delta's service at least a couple of times each year in order to maintain good relations with the company. Take care.
Mike Anthony

Matt, I can imagine how frustrating that could be. Had something similar happen to me with FedEx but, it was just because I wasn't talking to the right people unlike in your situation.
Actually I live an hour away from the city and it's in a different county than the airport - takes me an hour to drive there... I guess I was lucky :)
Mike Anthony all I can say - thank you if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have tried it. Actually I'm aware that I should ship few times a year - I have read the papers that I signed and it stated there I should ship at least 3 times in 6 months. Anyways thanks for your help!
