Question: I saw an amazing canebreak @ the SC show last weekend - truly lavender....amazing. Most of the canebreaks that I have seen were pretty dull - but then again, most were also pretty young! So...this is the question: do canebreaks go through an ontogenetic color change like coppers...getting their full colors as they mature. And, if so - when do they generally get their full color (age & size).
PS - I am assuming that if they do go through a color change before they mature, the same would be true for timbers? Yes or no?
Thanks,
Mike

In my experience all horridus go through some sort of a color change. Some seem to change every shed...colors brighten, others dull or wash out...for their entire lives. I saw some DOR babies last year that were bright salmon pink with black chevrons, but most of the adults I've seen from there are brown or grey with a bit of pink around the belly.

Let no hunter stop to gaze upon the fearful crotalus, or he will experience a strange subtle charm which it will require a most resolute effort to break through.
