Well if you're talking about JUST toxicity and not other factors like yield, aggressivness (if that's a word) and size, then I'd have to say inland taipans. But I also like to think there can't be JUST one species that's the most toxic just because of thsoe others factos.

What is this fasination everyone seems to have with labeling stuff "most" venomous, longest, heaviest, etc. ? Is it hump-night trivia or something ?
I just do not see the fasination of trying to hang tags on snakes, like fastest, most lethal, heaviest, longest, most ugly, most attractive, etc.
Reminds me too much of American Idle................
What purpose does it serve ?.................

Andrew,
We get this question a lot (which is why it's on the Frequently Asked Questions Page), so forgive us for being a little short. There are so many factors to consider (type of venom, route of entry, individual reaction, individual snake, human reaction versus prey reaction) that it it literally impossible to answer your question. It's just best to say that any snake that can cause an envenomation should be considered potentially dangerous and treated with due respect. Other than that this question, as John and Greg pointed out, is merely an academic exercise. It doesn't matter whether you were bitten by a copperhead or a bushmaster. Dead is dead, a $90,000 hospital bill is a $90,000 hospital bill, and a lost finger is a lost finger. I hope this clarifies.

lol I knew Al would come through with that one. He's taking the reality route statistics are statistics and thsoe are numbers and tests. But I haven't looked at it tha way yet so I would say I agree now too with the labeling BS.
