got the results back from the necropsy on the edb....i have been having problems with my snakes and had no reason why, but he said that it had a lot of protozoa(if thats how its spelled and if thats plural) and problems with worms and they were eating but starving....im pretty sure a wdb infected them all....i quarantine but nothing showed up so i kept it with a couple others in a big cage....and it spread from there....i learned something about how important it is to keep everything super clean....im gonna go overkill from now on....he gave me flagyl and panacur and said it should be alright after a couple of doses...im just glad something showed up....i was getting worried....and anyone around the north alabama area (hunstville, madison county) need a good vet then check with mark at cornerstone vet in madison alabama...he seems smart enough but seems to care too...thats impressive....a nice dude

go to a local tack and feed store, look for a large green syringe, its called Fenbendazole, it is the exact same thing that is on the panacur bottle, look near the bottom. Its like 10bucks for thousands of doses. Hope it helps,

The syringe at the tack stores, is it paste or liquid? Also, anyone know what the density of the paste is??? Basically, I've been worming my bushmasters prophylactically. Essentially the snakes are around 4kg.
I take the dosage 25mgPancur/kg snake x 4kg =100mg of drug..The paste is 10%, thus 100mg/0.10(mg drug/mg paste)= 1000mg panacur for a 4kg snake, the problem is I use a 3 cc syringe to inject into a thawed rat, but I have to assume a density(gms paste, cc)....I guess I could weigh it but I my scale is only good to +/- 2.5gms. So I assume the paste has a density of 1(ie. water). Anyone know what it really is?

I seen your post about the concentration of panacur....melisa kaplan has an article on it somewhere but I couldnt find it . I did find one of the notes I have on it...the paste dosage( if its the 25 gram paste or 10%) the dosage is .25cc per Kg of bodyweight....The stuff is extremely safe so odds are you wont overdose even if you went over that recommendation...I'll try to find her web page if I can. And a follow up in two weeks is needed.

Hi Matt, the paste is probably 100mg/gram, so your snake at 4 kilos would get 100 migs, or 1 gram. Getting a good gram scale is the way to go, very necessary. You could break it down as far as you can then cut that in half with Panacur. Get the liquid Panacur with a suspension of 100mg/cc, this is easier to work with. Same goes for Flagyl, get the liquid. One more thing. I go 100mg/kg for both Flagyl and Panacur, but I like to go on the high side of drugs. I never have had any problems. I also inject the meds directly into the animal, not the prey, this way I know that they got it all and not just some. Sometimes regurg is a problem where the snake will get nothing, or the rat will just sit there and not be eaten, a waste of good drugs. If you ever see 10% on a drug that means you times it times 10 to get the amount. 10% paste is 100migs/gram, 2.27% liquid would be 22.7 migs/cc. Good luck, Tim

A forestry worker once told me not to drink from mountain streams while camping unless I treated the water. He said Giardia and Protazoan (excuse spelling) were both a risk to humans. I made sure to always treat the water while camping after that,(I didn't before that) but if this is true, and this is the same Protozoan, can it be transmitted to humans and if so, how?
