I guess we need to ban border patrols, that will eliminate snake bites to border patrols ... anyway, seriously, I hope he recovers soon

BP agent rescued after being bitten by snake
By Gentry Braswell
WICK NEWS SERVICE
SIERRA VISTA — A U.S. Border Patrol agent was bitten by a rattlesnake Thursday morning in Sheelite Canyon of the Huachuca Mountains.
A Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue Unit, an Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger rescue helicopter, and 10 Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team communications and rescue personnel, responded to assist shortly after 10 a.m.
“The agent was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Health Center where he’s being treated and appears to be doing well,” said Dove Haber, spokeswoman for the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector.
The agent was in stable condition at the hospital as of 4:30 p.m., Haber said.
Rescue personnel carried the agent from the scene of the bite in Sheelite Canyon to the top of Garden Canyon, said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
The agent was then flown from atop the canyon by a DPS rescue crew and helicopter to Libby Army Airfield, from which he was taken by ground transportation to the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center.
County personnel cleared the call at 2:30 p.m., Capas said.

A few years back, a ranger in Organ Pipe Cactus NM [which I used to visit often in the old days...] was killed by smugglers [druggers, illegals, who knows]. The rangers now patrol with M-16s. On my last visit, during an evening return from a day in the back country, I was twice passed by high speed vehicles obviously running whichever of the above. Quitobaquito Spring, formerly a birders paradise, is now half buried in trash and so dangerous that you can't leave your car unattended or visit at night. Hiking in the Bates Mountains / Bates Well area? You might consider staying away from those secluded thickets and arroyos. Want to drive the Camino de Dos Republicas? Better count on being stopped by the Border Patrol when you merge back onto AZ 85. And don't even think of leaving your car for a short walk into the [truly beautiful] desert.
I never go to Organ Pipe, or anywhere else on the south AZ border, any more.
The rattlesnakes are the LEAST of the dangers. That ranger was LUCKY.
