Which is harder to keep, Bothrops Asper or Bothrops Atrox?
Do they interbreed?
What are the major differences [especially demeanor wise] between the two?
I've been all over the 'net trying to answer for myself but I'd rather hear from those that have kept or experienced both.
Reason why is I've heard of the Fer-de-lance all my life and wanna know them better without direct contact.
Thanks for any knowledge or opinions anyone would care to share.
Steve

LOL, no difference, both psycho. My least favorite adult animals to work with. Most are twitchy flighty and love to turn and lunge at you. I am not sure if they have been crossed (why?) but i am sure its possible. They overall are very flighty, and highly toxic. Its like a wild mamba who has alot longer strike length. Hope it helps,
Jared

Yes, they will interbreed.
I have worked both species for about 30 years, and I believe asper to be more unpredictable. Bothrops asper get larger.
By my estimation, Bothrops moojeni, are the absolute worst to work! (behavior-wise)
Basically, the Fer-de-Lance, is Bothrops lancelatus, found only on the island of Martinque. Reptile Dealers/Hobbyists, have named Bothrops atrox erroneously as the "Fer-de-Lance" The common name for Bothrops atrox, is the Common Lancehead, NOT Fer-de-Lance.
Hope this helps.

I would hate to see a Bothrops asper and Bothrops atrox cross also.
What would call the durn thing, perhaps Bothrops asperox ???
Actually, that name kind of does have a ring to it.
No doubt, it would be just plain evil tempered, LOL !

Man yeah!
You guys hit my nail on the head, I MEAN!
I wondered about interbreeding because their ranges overlap. And so many other aspects of the animals are the same.
I had already read about Lancelatus and Martinique and the true Fer-de-lance but thanks also.
Sounds like a couple really 'bad' critters. Now I REALLY like them! [From a distance!]
Thanks, guys.
