Hi Ig,
It's possible. In the '70s I found 2 dens in Vermont where there were supposed to be none.
I don't think there will be very many in NH, if any. In the northern latitudes they reproduce so slowly -- a female might not breed until she's 8 or 9 years old, and then not every year -- that any major losses or interference with a hibernaclum could be disasterous to the population.
If there are any dens, they will be in a remote area. Habitate losses are taking their toll in NH as everywhere.
luck,
f

Thats really sad. Is there any research being done to verify the status of the Timber rattler in new England at this time or possibly talk of reintroducing the species ?
P.S. Any thoughts on who i could ask if your not sure ? Thanks for the help: Mike

Hi again,
I really don't know as it's been many years since I lived up there. I do know that MA and CT have tough protection laws and they are serious about enforcing them, as is NY. Horridus is thought to be entirely gone from ME.
I would suggest getting in touch with the state F&G.
luck,
f
