Description: This is by far the best snake bit kit available with 4 different cups to extract venom. This is a must if ever around venomous snakes. Also works on wasps, bees, mosquito bites, scorpions and spiders.

just cut and suck

This product in a word is "useless" when it comes to snakebites. It is nothing more than a variation of the old cut and suck method without the cutting and without the shot of whiskey. The literature all shows that the extractor does not remove significant amounts of venom, and no envenomation that I have treated has ever benefited by it's use prior to getting to the hospital. It does not remove a significant amount of venom that has been deposited deep into Sub-Q tissues. What many people see is venom that has been left on the skin and serum/blood as a result of the puncture. I'll take the shot of whiskey before I will use this product if bitten-at least I won't care if I'm drunk.

Does it really help

you can never remove all of the venom. I am a first responder and I have used this product, and first of all it will cause further necrosis and aggravate the effected area. It can help for minor situations ( Bee Stings and other insect bits), but you will still need to seek out medical attention.

Blown out of proportion

I always have on when I go herping, but I have never considered it to be a major life-saver. I would never use anything but the largest cup, because too small a cup can cause bruising, making things worse.
As stated below, every drop of venom removed has to help, but this product is only beneficial if applied almost immediately after the bite. Once venom has traveled from the site of the bite, this device is useless.
Bottom line, it won't hurt to have one, but don't think this makes an envenomation any less serious or life-threatening.

You cause more damage than the snake venom does with this device. This is what Dr. Sean Bush Said in a Medical Research Paper.

Venom: They Just Suck"

I have been selling Sawyer Extractors at the Hamburg show for over five years. At almost every show, a previous Extractor purchaser comes up to the table and tells me how glad they are that they had an Extractor to use when they were bitten. The only people that come up to the table and don't believe in the value of the Extractor are those that have never used them. I have used them myself on several different kinds of venomous snake bites with good results. The effectiveness depends on where the bite is located. If you can get good suction and you apply the Extractor very soon after the bite, venom will be removed. Every bit of venom removed has got to be beneficial. Pop an Extractor on your hand and push in the plunger. When you feel the power of the suction, you'll know why they work.

"Extractor", really?

This product does not only not help with snakebite, but can even have detremental effects. Works great for all the other purposes, but the reason its even on this site is its fictasious remedy of snakebite. If you want something to stop an annoying chigger bite from itching be my guest, buy it. If you want something to suck out venom, then your out of luck.

I like it

I friend of mine has had to use it twice and both times he has recovered fully. It did help extract most of the venom both times. I would use it in a bite. I would not hurt to use it. It may save a finger

The largest applicator cup is only one inch in diameter. It seems kind if small to me.
