I am researching a documentary film about people who
own exotic (non domestic) animals. Specifically we are
exploring the emotional connection between exotics and
their owners. The research has been going well and I’m
meeting some amazingly passionate and fascinating
people and their exotics. I realize that this is a huge,
sometimes controversial topic and can be very
emotionally/politically charged. And no, as I am
frequently asked, I am not with PETA or some faction of
the government. I’m just a guy interested in learning more
about these often unique animals and the equally unique
people who own them. I’d love to find a great venomous
snake story. If you own a venomous snake because you
feel there’s no more rewarding experience in terms of a
human/animal relationship or experience, I’d love to talk
with you and tell you more. Please contact me via the
email address tagged here. Thanks. Andrew Walton –

I'm with you. I can perhaps see some professional
educators keeping exotic venomous snakes, but what is
the point of importing venomous snakes, most of which
are many times more deadly than our native species? Sure,
they have their niche in nature, but it's obviously not in
North American for these species. Although I understand
that the escaped/released constrictors in the Everglades
are doing just fine, even if to the detriment of some native
wildlife. Just what we need is our own population of
cobras in North America /s. I'd bet that many of the
people in India or Sri Lanka or Africa wouldn't mind if the
niches of their venomous species were just a bit smaller.
For instance, it seems that the puff adder-a prolific
species in Africa-can have as many as 150 babies in a
litter (or whatever it's called in snake breeding). Many
people there are bitten by them. We have enough rattlers,
copperheads, etc, we don't need populations of cobras,
saw-scaled vipers, etc, in North America, thank you very
much.

this show is good. But they need to show more of the people that almost died. my husaband was one and if it wasn't for ernie and al he would have. He was bitten by a blackmamba and it almost cost him his life. That is what you need to show on this show. God bless al and ernie.they said it was the worst bite they have ever seen.

Hi,
I was bitten by a watermocassin in 1985. I have had numerous medical problems as a result and am only now getting my life back. The doctors originally thought I had a "dry bite" and I was sent home from the ER.
Hence, the numerous medical problems.
Now, I am feeling grateful to have survived this ordeal and was hoping that perhaps my blood could be used in developing an anti-venom.. I did not recieve any anti-venom for my bite. It would be great turning something so awful into something positive.
Counting my blessings in Gainsville.

I have only seen one show, but enjoyed it. They were nice enough to fly me out to LA for the filming of an episode on my last bite (6 ft Eastern Diamondback). Myself and Dr. Kurecki had a great time out there, and the people at Gurney Productions were all top notch. Not sure when that will air, but I don't get Discovery channel anyway, so they said they would send me a DVD of the show.
