Speak Out: Where do you stand on “free handling” of venomous snakes.
This subject covers a vast area handlers, from the greatly respected Bill Haast known for his free handling to the widely denounced new wave “extreme” free handlers who pick up venomous snakes as if they were ball pythons, simply for the adrenalin rush and bragging rights. We can also incorporate the religious free handlers who take a literal view of Mark 16:18. Do you personally free handle? If so, why? And if not, why? (Note: pinning the snake’s head and holding it behind the neck will not be considered free handling for the purposes of this topic.)

I've been known to free handle certain hots.. I think the main key to free handling is to know the individual specimens..
The thing that gets me is that a well known guy such as Ray holding a coral or a Haast holding a mamba (free handed not pinned) They get none to little bashing, yet when a fellow herper, true to be unknown to many herpers, get bagged on for holding something like say, a cotton or a copper.. But I guess popularity wins over most people.

Well its a good subject.
I freehandle most of my venomous.
But I can withstand the bites.
Only a fool freehandles without immunity.
so I ask you the venomous community.
if you can be nearly immune how come more people dont do it?
They will have to depend on a primitive
medical system and the immunities of lower life forms to survive the bite.
its about what I would expect from
a type 1 planet.
