in all honesty, steve has NOT died, his legend will live on for
generations, he has effected too many people for him to just
drop off the face of the earth like that, all of the people that
he touched will move up and take his place although i doubt
that there will be any one who can replace the one and only
CROCIDILE HUNTER.

As far as educating the public goes, NO ONE has ever come close to what Steve Irwin accomplished, and I think that's how we should remember him. His show was seen in 125 countries according to one site. That's amazing. He's THE most successful naturalist/conservationist/educator ever as far as that goes. He changed the way millions of people thought about snakes, crocodilians, and many other animals, and YES, he even entertained us. No one can take that away from him, regardless of what our "critiques" of his handling methods were. I have to admit, I was cringing watching him handle that Bothrops asper in the river in Belize, but you have to admire his passion.

A bad loss for us , and for the animals .
Sometimes he made me nervous , he knew the snakes well enough to get away with the way he handled them , but if someone with less knowledge ( like me ) tried it his way adios . Who has reached more people than
Steve , not many !

I can only use words here, words really dont do justice. Steve Erwin was the reason i started teaching. A man who till the day that i die will stay in my thoughts and everyones imaginations. we cannot say thank you enough nor can we give anything that would make up for the loss of one of the greatest men in this field and the world over. Every time i have ever done a show or even carried a snake around, people would say," oh Ive seen that snake" or i knew that about that gator. they always say "I saw it on the croc hunter". He has had such a huge effect on the way people think of crocs or what people see as a dangerous snake, they now see "A LITTLE BEAUTY".
And though faced with the onslought and ridicule of press, as well as performing for a world wide audience. this crazy little austrailian fought to protect and teach about the animals that so many have feared. he truly achieved more than anyone else has ever accomplished, and gave more than anyone ever will.
Remember him

There's not much that I can add that has'nt already been said. Steve was a great guy who loved animals, this planet, and most of all his family. I think that it was really cool, actually, very touching, that he was filming for his daughter's show when the accident took place. Steve once said that the reason he was put on this earth was for his family. Death really sucks. But on the flip side,he has had a tremendous influence on thousands of young lives, something most of us could never do in several lifetimes. And I would'nt be the least bit suprised if his children end-up being top-notch naturalists like their father was. His legacy will live on.

We will all miss you in the herp community Steve. You inspired and educated more than most of us could ever hope to. Your work in Australia has done wonders for the problems associated with "salties." I grew up watching Steve, and in many ways emulated him when beginning my professional herp keeping. You will be soley missed -- our khaki-clothed friend. Bless you for what you and all your family have done for our cold-blooded friends.

Steve Irwin touched all our lives His enthusiasm was amazing. I know that he touched my life and I have tried personally in my own small way to help. I have stopped along the side of a road to help a turtle across the road. I had to smile as I pictured Steve Irwin smiling that wondefully infectious smile. He wanted above all to know that people were learning that wildlife was important and needed our help. Ill miss him so much. That day I heard I cried and I felt so empty. I then saw something Steve had recorded about his love of conservation and teaching others how to be involved. I smiled and thought how wonderful it was if only for a brief moment we were blessed to have such a caring loving man. Steve you were and still are a part of everyday life.
Terrie,Bindi, lil Bob and Mr. Irwin my heart goes out to you. Terrie you lost your best friend and we the world have lost an important part of what we needed to be better people. I have heard of the back lash from killing the sting rays. I cringed at the thought. He wouldnt have ever let that happen. You know he would have said it was a silly mistake not the sting rays fault. Please I beg in Steve Irwins memory do not kill any living thing for revenge.
I miss you so much Steve. Wes and all his zoo family please continue his work, it would be so sad not to. Im sure his mom welcomed him home with open arms.

We are Claudia and Johannes from Germany. We want to thank Steve for the way he showed us, how to be one with the nature and the animals, who live on this planet.
Hearing from his accident, we were shocked, but he would have said, this was not the mistake of the animal. It was my mistaken behaviour, that provoced the manta ray`s reaction.
He was a great man with a great sense of humour, giving his life for what he loved.
Thank you Steve.

I'm 15 years old and live in California. I didn't really like Steve Irwins television shows except some in which he is out in the field. Yet I feel like I have lost a family member. I mean it isn't just like oh well he died and I feel sorry for him and his family. I genuinely miss him and everytime I see him on T.V or anywhere I am saddened and the pain is there. I don't want to get religious but I truly wish there is a heaven out there because Steve belongs there. He was such a great person in general. My heart goes out for Steve's loved ones. Rest in peace Steve Irwin, and I wish to be able to carry your message of conservation on. You were a great person both as a family man and a person dedicated to preserving Earth. You died doing what you love which I am sure is the way you wanted to die, the only sad part is you died at such a young age of 44. Rest in peace Steve Irwin the world can never replace your dedication and enthusiasm. I wish the message of conservation will live on through you and other dedicated consverationists. My heart goes out for Steve Irwin's family and friends. You will be missed Steve Irwin. Rest in peace my friend.

As snakeguy mentioned, it's a week later and I'm only just now accepting the fact that he's gone. I didn't always approve of the risks he took, but I applaud how much of a champion for wildlife conservation he was and the passion he displayed. Rest in peace, Steve.
