A large, 1.2 m female of Crotalus vegrandis. The snake inhabits the Maturin savannah of Venezuela and grows only to approx. 0.7 m in the wild. In common with C.d.terrificus, C. scutullatus, C. v. concolor, C. tigris and C. h. attricaudatus, the venom of this species contains a powerful pre-synaptic neurotoxin which can also act as a myotoxin. The neurotoxins from the mentioned species are all closely related.
