|
Joseph Bruno Slowinski was born November 15th, 1962 in New York City. His principal areas of research were herpetology (mainly elapids), molecular evolution, and phylogenetic analysis. With around 40 peer reviewed journal articles and one book “Test Yourself Genetics" (July 1998) ,he was very well respected in the academic world. During his career, he discovered around 18 new species of reptiles and amphibians. On September 11, 2001 he was bitten by a juvenile krait during a research trip in Myanmar. With medical help 2 days away, his team mounted a valiant effort to sustain his life, performing mouth-to-mouth and CPR for almost 2 days. However, in the end the krait won out. Joe Slowinski was 38.
