Well let me say thank you to the phantom you were the only one that just answered my post informatively. And AL for throwing in some info i was wanting to know, unfortunately mixed with his unneeded criticism.
Well first off let me say that I am from Elkins West Virginia! NOT TENNESEE!!so it is fortunately legal to keep them here, but nice try thanks for the smartass comment TJ
And to AL, first off i found out quite alot Before i got these snakes.I have had these snakes for over a year now,and while im not claiming im an "Expert".I didnt go into this totally blind.I found out where the closest place was that keeps antivenom and called to confirm and did but didnt ask about purchasing so i could have on hand and through doing this found 1 other hospital as well, but they still are both over 100 miles.
And to you EMTNURSE ,First off "EXPERT" there not Canebrakes,And second i know what crofab is,and i dint ask you people if you thought i could afford it,i dont care how expensive it is,its kinda necessary isnt it,but i didnt know for sure about the price so i asked and i was wanting to if it was leagal to have privately in west virginia I wasnt asking for you to be talkin crap about me,sorry i guess asking ?s makes me an idiot to.
See once again im not claiming to be an "EXPERT" like many on this site feel that they are.But i took alot of time to research everything to do with my snakes long before i got them. And have successfully have kept them and others for over a year now, while this is no astounding task,i must have alittle common knowlege about working with them,I managed to have them healthy, eating regularally,I never had any close calls or anything,While once again no pro here but to keep 5 adult Crotalus for any period of time and then the 17 neonates it takes alot of time, knowledge and money to do this as im sure many of you know.Well after my female quit eatin i passed it off on the fact she was pregnant, which i learned that they often wont eat while be gravid, well you know a few months later now and she still not eating(going into shed at this time)and was getting worried so I decide to post for advice and opinions from people about my snakes not about me and my knowledge,But thanks for thinking that you know something!
Sorry that me inquiring on getting a personal on hand supply of Crofab makes me out to be a idiot to you people, and that looking for opinions on my non eater makes you think i know nothing about keeping these snakes or anyhting else for that matter just shut up if you dont have any advice to share just negative thoughts shut up i didnt post so i could hear your crap.

You are welcome dude. I am always happy to regurgitate my wisdom amongst forum readers.
I read the thread you are referring to. Herpetocultural ethics command that we inform ourselves sufficiently before we make the commitment to the animal. This is required so that we can promote an environment necessary for the animal to thrive. Such is moreso with venomous reptiles as safety is of more concern. Condescending, arrogant, and egotistical rants are poor methods of instruction, and do nothing constructive for the inquiring interest. Herpetocultural ethics also command that we welcome and embrace new interests.

I can see where you might get the idea i was from tennesee in having that nickname but there are many reasons and explanations behind nicknames,But that isnt what it was about. Its about jumping to conclusions about me or people in general. Its Thinking that i am stupid and not able and prepared to care of these snakes because of me posting a couple questions that knew the answers to but seeing hows theres a forum to "ask the experts" I try to get some expert opinions or tips/advice?And thank you to all that answered my questions! But i dont appreciate just like anyone else wouldnt, being called an idiot and incompetent.Im sorry that in society today people are to quick to judge others. I am here to learn like many others and i have learned alot but getting critizied for no reason by the people that reply!Im sorry if im in the wrong !

Jed, I didn't call you an idiot or incompetent, but you have to realize that "in a society where people are quick to judge", it is also a society where there is a hundred people at any given time quick to buy a venomous snake on impulse without knowing anything about it. The people who responded to you knew very little from your posts and profile (although mine is a bit lacking) to think that you were competent, especially when the question asked is one that has been asked and answered a number of times.
There are many states and cities that are outlawing venomous snake keeping, and there are a number of people who are trying to protect the areas that are still pure. You can't fault anyone for that, but I can also understand that you felt like you were being insulted.
To answer your question, there are very few keepers who have their own stocks of crofab. It's expensive, has a relatively low shelf life, and it is readily available now that the shortages are up. Most keepers will keep stocks of AV that is not readily available, for rare species or Asian and African snakes, not for native snakes. Most other AV's are cheaper, have a slightly longer shelf-life (and even if it expires can still be used because they are experimental drugs and not approved by the FDA), and are better than US antivenin. Hopefully I didn't miss anything, and I hope this helps.

Just some FYI - There ARE plenty of experts that monitor this forum. But as Karl Betz, SHHS VP, says - "Look at the profile of the individual posting before you decide whether or not to take someone seriously." The "experts" tend to have a filled out profile. Just an observation.
There really isn't a good reason to not fill out a profile. Email addresses can be kept completely anonymous.
Another thing that people tend to forget is that all posts here are permanently archived. Searching the archives is a good way to find an answer to your questions.
