Boomslangs can become black in captivity, possibly due to differences in temperature or UV. In anycase, we've had green males and olive females turn deep, patternless black in a matter of months. Very interesting.

Melanistic Dispholidus are not uncommon by any means. This species is highly polymorphic, whereby males *tend* to display a greater intraspecific variation than females.

I acquired a w.c. adult female a couple years ago, and initially she was fairly dark but still somewhat greenish. Over the next several months, just like BGF related, she changed to almost completely black. Pretty interesting to see. Almost all baby booms are born looking the same way: brown on top, bright green eyes, creamish white underneath. They all undergo a color change to their adult coloration as they mature. Obviously though, this female had completed that change, and this was something wholly different. Anyway, booms are awesome snakes. They definitely take the cake as one of the most fascinating, interesting, intriging snakes out there. Just watch those fangs. They are HUGE, pretty highly maneuverable, and pack a potent punch (melted insides, anyone?).
