This is yet another nail in the hobbies coffin. Everybody who gets bit and does not have the correct antivenom makes more foder for Zoo officials like Berg.
Matt Harris and I are working to form an Antivenom bank in the North Eastern US. I suggest that everybody in this region that keeps Hots contact me for more details, The law will soon change in PA too.
I will be at the Hamburg show tomorrow from 9 am till 2 pm.

for their opinions and comments on whether to ban hots in PA or institute a permit/licensing system. An A/V bank ,IF set up properly and in due time, be one saving grace that tips the scales in favor of a license system.
Look at NY...The liberals here, wanted to hear nothing about a reasonable license system. The law was passed, based on a) A minority of keepers effected and b) pure and simple sentiment towards snakes and snake keepers.
These laws are not getting passed because of conrete data. IF they were, Dogs and horses would've been banned long ago.
Please See Al tomorrow at hamburg. I will be there, BUT will not be around until mid-afternoon. While NOT OFFICIALLY ENDORSED by zoos, we have been in contact with them and they are in favor of this system! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE 10 YEARS AGO!

When evaluating any tabloid, the reader is best advised to take the material subjectively and objectively. This is wise. Such isn't always the case. The tabloids possess a remarkable ability to sway and influence public opinion towards what they identify as "their best interests". Any fool may testify, when a keeper is bitten, the error is the keepers. I wonder if this man was hand feeding this nigricollis? A bite to the hand while offering food clearly illustrates this. There is no other plausible excuse.
More importantly, any venomous herpetoculturist is able to appreciate the damning, penis extending, testimony of Berg. I find his testimony suspicious. We all know that SAIMR works well w/ Asian Naja. Why did it take 3 trips to get this right? Why wasn't both varieties delivered as there was an emergency where BERG (a bonafide idiot), wasn't completely aware as to the species of the offending snake? Someone's life is on the line and he sends the wrong serum. Who's the professional? Didn't he appreciate the sense of urgency and the importance of certainty? Ridiculous! What's more ridiculous is that Berg openly states in the article that he "ASSUMES" antivenin had already been given to the patient. Why the hell is a curator even speculating on treatment?? This man does not know as much as he thinks he does. If he WAS informed, then he clearly lacks the common sense granted to worm feces. Sad.
Killing the snake should not have been an option. A zoo is supposed to be a safe haven for animals. This is what they do. Any established quarantine room could allow for the 3'X 18" space to temporarily house any specimen. The snake loses, and herpetoculture loses........bigtime!
Yet, another black eye for venomous herpetoculture,

The title of the above article should read, "Zoo Curator Saves Man's Life", or better yet, "...Fellow Herpetoculturist's Life". The perspective damningly condemns private keeping. Unfortunately, the track record of unrecognized private venomouos keepers is that of one who takes and takes and takes, jeopardizing the safety of zoo staff, neighbors, and themselves. As hazards occur, they are highlighted dramtatic discussion in banner tabloids. Until the antivenin issue is resolved venomous herpetoculturists are going to realize they will never get along with or be respected by the zoological community as a whole.
Exotic venomous reptile keeping and antivenin go together like bread and butter, ladies and gentlemen. Live near a bank, a lending source, or stock your own. The presence of antivenin is not a blank check for you to incorportate their stores into your protocol. Period. I salute the efforts of the above posters in their efforts to make Venomous Herpetoculture a safer and "legaller" :-p hobby for everyone in the region. Donate your money to their cause. They need it! For exotic venomous keepers, antivenin is everyone's responsibility!
The Phantom's Prophecy: Another bank is going to open soon.....a 3rd one! Donate your money to this cause, as well.
