Free websites are fine but generally include intrusive advertising and zero help.
First thing you will need to do is buy a domain. GoDaddy is the least expensive, yet reliable place do do this (www.godaddy.com), it will cost $8.95 per year. The site itself can range in price depending on how in depth you desire it to be. Hosting is then the only other consideration which also ranges. A small site of less than 10 pages should cost no more than about $8 per month.
I would gladly offer any other assistance. I am a stay at home dad that does websites, graphics, hosting, etc.. on the side. I also have my own servers as well as email servers. So I can help from start to finish and I just happen to have a real passion for snakes. You can email if you want my number:
