A friend gave me his baby retic, she is about 3 feet long. This snake had a hughe feeding response, eating 3 to 4 mice at one time. I noticed she had mites during a feeding. So, i secluded her from the rest of my collection and cleaned the room very well.. I bought reptile relief for her and it was not working. I followed the directions and got no response. So, i put her in another enclosure, poured flea powder in her 50 gal tank with a flea collar, sealed the cage with trash bags and let it fumigate for about 5 hrs. After that, I washed it out very well, and let her cage air out outside. Then I put canola oil on her from head to tail and all this stuff did kill the mites, Now she wont eat and has no interest in food. I dont understand why she will not eat. I think the reptile relief made her sick. She did eat 1 mouse but regurgitated it the following am. My herp room is very warm with all the heat lamps, and I dont know what has happened to her. If anyone has any answers, please let me know. Thanks for all responses.. Mike

did she have access to a water bowl while the spray was on her?
it is toxic if ingested
so realy hydrate her for a few days, very high humidity ect
to be perfectly honist 2-3 mice per week isn't going to sustain a baby retic unless it is one of the true dwarf locals
weaner rats every 3 days would be much better for her

How long has it been since he/she ate the 3-4 mice? It could be that he/she’s just not hungry. Give him/her time and see if he/she will snap out of it. I know sometimes Snakes will eat 2-3, even 4 good meals, then not eat for 2-2 1/2 weeks, this has happen to me. If he/she don’t eat within the next few weeks then start worrying. Good luck, hope the Retic dose well.......Be safe, happy herping Wally

Hi Mike.
If the snake has ingested any of the anti-parasitic treatment you have used, then it may be suffering mild/serious poisoning. If this is the case, then this may have damaged its nervous system (chemical poisoning often does this to snakes). Check the snake's motary functions.. Is it flicking its tongue normally? Is it moving about normally? Is it reactive when disturbed? Poisoning can cause sporadic twitches and symptoms similar to "stargazing".
The other possibility is that it is just really stressed with all the handling/treatments.
Either way, it is not a good sign when a baby Retic refuses food. I would leave it completely alone for a few days (except changing water, humidifying etc) and then attempt to feed it again. If it doesn't feed after a few days then I would get it to a specialist reptile vet.
Hope it all turns out well.

Hey guys, thanks alot for the info, I just dont understand this. It has been over a month since she has eaten, maybe getting closer to 2 months. The last time she ate, was a small rat, and this was when noticed the mites. And has not eaten since then. But, she has shed in between her not eating phase. Any other ideas???? thanks Guys. Mike
