What is normal behavior for a neonate Western Diamondback? Specifically activity level, temperament, feeding response. The snake in question is a female about 5-6 months old. Captive born from a reputable source, and appears to have been cared for properly. I am just asking because, when I saw it, it wasn't too active. I have seen it several times. It is currently in a 3X2 foot enclosure, 2 hides, 1 waterbowl, and on newspaper. The snake stays under the edge of the newspaper, coiled up. When the paper is lifted, she sits there. She flicks her tongue alot, and if moved with a hook, she doesn't rattle. She just hurries into a hide right away. Is this normal for a snake like this? I would have thought they would be a bit more active. I know she feeds well, but, she just doesn't move around at all.

Sounds like this snake is pretty normal...I don't have any c. atrox, but some of my snakes are like this. If, by chance you go in your "hot room" at night you may see her out and about. Snakes love to hide, and she is eating, so that is good.
My guess is some rattlers rattle, and some don't...probably more so true with cb.
Good luck,
Steve
