Doing a survey. I would like to know how many people who live outside of North Carolina have driven to Hyde and Beaufort Counties to collect Sistrurus miliarius (Red Pigmy) how often do they visit the areas and how many pigmies are taken? Thanks,

I go down a few times a year but have only ever found 2 live ones my self(probally 5 DOR within the past two years). I DO NOT COLLECT however and I simply took pictures and sent them on their way. Didnt even need to hook em! You can see pics of the two I found in the feild ablbum here on this site if interested.
If I may ask, why are you asking? Are you doing studies on the pigs? Just curious.
Later,
Jeremy

Jeremy, I like your pic's It looks like you are on sandy dike rd. water foul impoundments. southern part of the lake right off HWY 94 on the west side. Congradulations on finding that pigmy there. That area isn't frequinted by pigs very much. However there are areas not far from there where some healthy colonies exist. Black racers are commonly found in that area and that may be why one does not find as many pigmy,s in that area, The question is just out of curiosity, and yes I have been studying pigmy colonies throughout NC for around 10 years. Last year seemed to be one of the best years for NC for pigmy's. Thanks for your reply.

Hello,
I area were we caught the pigs, wasnt near Mattamuskeet(relativly speaking. All of Hyde county is near Mattamuskeet)but the habitat shots were. I would go into detail about the area were we found them but I do not wish to post the info on a public forum. I trust you but prying eyes are wanting to know and I anit going to tell em!!! Drop me an e and we can go into further detail about it.
As for the Blk racer anology, very interesting. You are absolutely right. That area, along with most of the county from our luck anyway, is covered with Blk racers and down that stretch, we saw atleast 5, includeing the baby im holding in one of those shots. Them bastards are everywhere!
Though, as I said earlier, I have only found two alive a buddy of mine(who also only does photo and release) went down 3 weekend consecutively and found 7, includeing the 2 I was present for. He also found a nenate which was a first for him. He is a seasoned vetren of the area and also said it was one of the best years for pigs that he can remember.
Well man, I look foward to conversing more via email. Hit me up when you get a chance.
Later,
Jeremy
