Hi,
I seen a program on tv the other night, when a ranger or herp guy, spotted an egyptian cobra out in the bush.
He proceeded to distract the snake with one hand and gently placed his other hand over and then behind the snakes hood and pushed its head down into the grass.
Any views on this, I ( and i dont claim to know anything bout the critters )would of thought this to be well dangerous.
Why not use a hook or tongs etc.
Cheers

of course it is risky, however from my understanding b/c cobras are so intelligent they are also a bit more predictable and therefore a little easier to read. I bet you wouldn't see someone doing that with a gaboon viper or crotalus terrificus.

When a cobra spreds its hood,it losses all vision behind it.Try this.Get a cobra to stand up,then take a hookstick and move it behind the snakes head,it does not react to it.What that guy did is possible, but not advisable.Cobras do mock strike alot, espicially Egyptians, forests, cape cobras and rinkhals.Spitting cobras and mambas generally strike when they are ready to bite.
