I used to live in AZ but now live in southern Idaho. The best times for herping around Flagstaff or tuscon are early morning around when the sun comes out and an hour or so after dark. Go around on roads that aren't used that much and drive slow. They should be out on the road getting warm.

Hi:
They are out and about from early March, depending on the weather. This year it should be earlier. I have had the best luck in the early morning just after sun up. They lie out to warm up all over the place. Because they are cool...they are easier to deal with too.
Good Luck!
