It is a very big retic in the photos, but I dont' think it is 48 feet. Why can't people who find "world record" snakes ever take photos of them next to a tape measure? JohnZ

I dotn beleive it for one reason is that i have never heard of a snake weighing nearly 1000 lbs . But maybe I am wrong.

The reticulated python in the photo could be 20 to 24 feet long, and 300 or 400 pounds maximum. I don't think it is any bigger than that. JohnZ

Yeah, that photo is from last year. The retic was actually about 24 feet I think. The man who was taking care of that thing was feeding it 4 or 5 dogs a month. Bryan

There was a follow up story on that snake. I don't recal the exact figures, but the snake was reliably measured by a Western Scientist at 21-22 feet in length, which would make it a possible 200-250 pounds.
The owner thought that some sort of magic explained why it mysteriously shrunk when a tape measure was brought in. It's funny how that happens with big Crocs and snakes. Look at Utan the Siamese/Saltwater Croc in S. Carolina, advertised as "bigger than Gomek, 20 feet and 3000 pounds when in reality he doesn't break 15 feet in length and if he was lucky )fat) 1000 pounds.
Also, if there was a snake 49 feet long it would weigh clearly (mathmaticaly formulated)in excess of 2500 to 3000 pounds at that length
