I am interested in starting a business in the milking of snake and would like any information to get me started in the right direction. Admittingly, I do not have any experience milking snakes, but have handled them since I was a young child. I am very serious about starting the business. For the past 8 years I have been a high school teacher and recently I graduated with an MBA in the hopes of starting my own business. If you can help me or have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks.

Diller: If you are really serious about looking for information here, you should first get serious about filling in your profile and letting people here know more about yourself. The answer to your question will vary a great deal, depending on what part of the world you live in, and what people think of your experience, based on what you put in your profile. JohnZ

My profile is now filled in as best as I can for now. I am 33 years old and I currently live in Nevada, but am from Montana originally and plan on moving back in the near future. I have handled snakes since was very young and I am looking for a business opportunity in snake milking and selling it. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you're in the U.S. I'll try to summarize the important points (and throw in some of my own) since you're the first person in at least a couple of weeks to post exactly the same plan.
1) The demand for most venoms is already filled by long esablished big name people you can't possibly compete with.
2) Even they aren't making as much money as you might think because of antivenom and insurance costs.
3) After a little more research, you just might decide you prefer having all your fingers.
4) Keeping your fingers by hiring employees to do the milking will cost you more in liability insurance than you can possibly make.
5) Even if you can do it marginally better and cheaper. noone will buy from you as long as the big names are still there.
6) If there were any money to be made (even enough to quit your day job and live off of), half the people on this board would be doing it already...

No need to add anything since Larry perfectly and accurately nailed it.
Larry, We should post your points on the home page, so we don't have to do this periodically.

What we really need to do is write a complete article on the subject, "So You Want To Start A Venom Lab". Over the last 6 years, I bet I've gotten 100 requests asking the same thing.
We're not trying to be jerks about this, we're just cutting to the chase. How could you possibly compete with these people without $250,000 of startup capital?
