I was just thinking about how much of a shame the wildfires are in the west. It's very dissapointing to think of how many snakes and other reptiles are dying because of them. The worst thing is they are only something like 10% contained. I think I speak for most of us when I say I wish I could do something to help the reptiles over there. I just hope it's quick to grow back. Is there anyone out there that lives in the west and has seen the effects of this fire on the ecosystem?

I used to live in florida and a few years ago 1997-1998 the wildfires were severe but you would be surprised at how it actually can benefit the animals...the fresh plants that sprout up cause a rise in rodents, which in turn feeds our reptile friends. Also most of them manage to find shelter underground but some don't and mother nature has been reforesting this way for centuries....overall its a good process for the habitat...but yes the few reptile casualties are disheartening....
One more thought...i wouldnt recommend it be there can be some great herping in the area in front of the fires....pretty dangerous though...
