Hi ya’ll, I caught a Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorous) about 4 Ft. long crossing the Road tonight. The place I caught Him/Her was only about 2 Miles from my House, it’s an Old Backwood Dirt Swamp Road with water on both sides. It is a Rainy Night here, and the Temp was about 70 F when I found the Snake. This is my First Hot Snake of the Year, and by the way, it is also the First Time my Wife has ever seen a Venomous Snake up Close and She was Smitten Immediately. She told me She never realized how Beautiful they really are, until She saw this Live one. On another Note, this Snake never once showed its Mouth. Have any of you ever had a (Agkistrodon piscivorous) not show its Name Sake? .............................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

I see alot of them around here..., and of the many that I have caught... only a few displayed. Most just try to get away... but once in a while, one will stand its ground (usually the large adults).
Mostly, they are pretty laid back though.
In my experience they are not very aggressive at all.
(although there are always exceptions.)

I was coming home from work the other morning, and a 36 inch copperhead was dead in the road that I live on. It had been decapitated. SIGH.
That's my first venomous of the year. :-(

Hey Chris, sorry too here about that Copperhead, a true Shame. ........... It was funny last night, the Cottonmouth seemed to be more interested in Killing my Tongs then Gaping. He/She Bite my Tongs about 7 times, leaving a few good sized drops of Venom. Had to give them a good washing when I got home. Didn’t want to end up with a Envenomation........................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

Sounds like a bummer Chris, theres nothin worse. I found my first 06 hot on JANUARY 29th! It was about a 2.5 foot cottonmouth at Woods Bay in Williamsburg County. It was the warmest in about a three day warm spell.
