Hi All.
I may be going to Angola soon for about 2 or 3 weeks. My work is sending me there to do a couple of things. But as i know myself, i'll take the first oppertunity i can to go herpin'. I'm pretty excited, because i think i'll see a wonderful array of wildlife. I'm most looking forward to photographing some Atheris in their natural habitat. Does any body else now which species i might run into? When i get back, i'll post some of the pics.
Best Regards

That is a definate possibility:) I might even stumble over a burried AK .47 and a box of ammo! I will be in and around Luanda. I'm sure i'll be running into some of the more familier snakes that i'm used to like Puff adders and other Bitis, boomslang, and perhaps Rinkhals. I'm not too sure if the Dendroaspis will be found that high up! But hopefully i can get to photograph some rare snakes that are not found in South Africa, like Atheris species. Does anybody know of any other beautiful venomous snakes there?

Quintin: In Angola the vemomous snakes you might find are Boomslangs, Bird Snakes, Shield-Nose Cobras, Jameson`s and Black Mambas, African Garter Snakes, Egyptian Cobras, Black-Necked Spitting Cobras, Forest Cobras, Ringhals, Bush Vipers, Gaboon Vipers, River Jacks, Puff Adders, Rhombic Night Adders, and possibly even a Tree Cobra.
There is also a very rare Angolan Dwarf Python (Python anchietae), that is found in the high rocky areas.
Sounds like a fun place to go herping!
After your trip, post here again and let us know what you were able to find and photograph.
Best Regards JohnZ

Thanx for the info John. Sounds like allot of the snakes found in South Africa, are also found there. I have had a rare encounter with a captive Anchieta's dwarf Python. Looking forward to viewing them in their natural habitat. (if I find one). I'll keep you all posted!!!

Quintin: I just saw a news feed that said there is a bad Cholera outbreak going on in the Luanda district of Angola. Something else to watch out for besides land mines!
