I have a young Veranus Melinus that escaped out of a deli cup into my vehicle. It is small enough to get just about anywhere... evey nook and cranny. I have attempted to trap it, but have been unsuccessful. Any trapping or bait suggestions would be appreciated.

Andrew: Fix up some hiding boxes for it. Stuff like small cardboard boxes with an entrance hole cut in. Possibly some shredded paper or moss or leaves inside of the box. Possibly put small water containers like jar lids inside of each box. Hopefully, it will retreat into one of these to feel more secure. Try to park the car in an empty garage, so that if it does excape the car, it will be loose in the garage.
Hope this helps.

Put a high sided aquarium, bucket or other container in the floor of the vehicle. Put about an inch of water in the bottom. Allow the monitor to have easy access to the edge of the container. Eventually, it will seek out the water, go in and not be able to get out.......... hopefully.
It's needs water and it will go in rather than die.

Oh, by the way, that's how I've caught Eumeces in the past. I just set a 10 gallon aquarium out with a little water in the bottom in an area where I see them frequently, and check it every day. I also put a little piece of wood in it that will float in the event that it rains. I usually set it right up against a brick wall.
Coral snakes love Eumeces.

I sure wish my Coral Snakes loved Eumeces.
I have kept many in the past that did.
But the pair I have now just turn up their nose at Skinks. They have no interest in them whatsoever.
All they will eat so far are other snakes, and they are picky about which types they like.
Best Regards JohnZ
