Herpetologists make significant SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS to our knowledge of reptiles and amphibians. The key words here are scientific and contributions. If this is not you then you are not a herpetologist with or without a degree (or television show).

Very true, (somewhat), BUT Herpetologists usually don't husband snakes, nor breed them. They don't clean cages, feed them, etc. 99% of people who post ot read this forum are NOT Herpetologists.
Your point?

Randal,
I`m sorry but I must say that that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. Have you ever heard of Bryan Fry ? What about Mark O`Shea ? These are just the example I know that are true herpetologists and keep snakes. OK, Mark O`Shea works or at least worked at a Snake Safari(a sort of Serpentarium) where he was the curator of herpetology. Lots of herpetologists keep snakes, if not in the lab for reaserch, at home for their selves. Conservational herpetologists have captive breeding programs.
The difference is that herpetologists do actual reaserch besides keeping herps.
