I am curious if anyone around me currently has any hots? I have found many copperheads and timer rattlesnakes before, but never handled/viewed anything in a private collection. Anyone know of the laws in Norther VA for keeping hots? I have no plans to keep hots anytime in the near future, but want to start learning more.

laws change, but if I remember correctly in Virginia you can have exotic venomous but natives were protected. Check with the local game wardens or an attorney specializing in wildlife law.

In VA you can have 5 of any native herp for personal use as long as they are not state/federal T&E listed (canebrakes are listed as endangered in VA).

In addition you cant posess the Brown Tree Snake in VA because law makers are stupid and think a tropical species can somehow survive our harsh winter and pose the same problem they do in Guam.
There are also county bu county regulations and no county withoin the DC beltway allows the possesion of venomous snakes.
