I visited recently the island of Bongoyo, close to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and I saw a small viper. Locals told me they are all venemous on the island. How and where can I verify this and identify the small viper I saw (3 of them in fact): 50cm long, thin, brown skin with darkish line along the body.

Denis, You might also want to look through the Viper Photos section of this web site, as there are about 39 pages of viper photos posted.
The snake you saw in Tanzania just might be pictured there.
Did you by any chance take a clear photo of the snake? If you did, post it to the ``Snakes for Identification`` section of the site, and let us know in this thread that you have done so.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ
