Hey guys just wondering why atheris squamigera is hard to get a hold of? Seems to be the main species to get ripped off on. Besides my curiosity does anyone have some that they're willing to get rid of. I posted earlier that I would have babies at the San Antonio show and they dropped the day after......(go figure). Anyways I have four that I would like to trade for more squams or ceratophora. I won't do so until they get some size on them, they are captive born from captive born parents aquired from glades a few years ago. Anyone interested in a trade, or can answer my question as to the why they're hard to come by please post on here or feel free to email me. And if you need pictures or would just like to see babies out of curiosity walk me through on how to post them and I will. Thanks

If I was looking to buy quality Atheris squamigera, I would contact Derek Morgan and/or Dave Kornelly.
They both have excellent animals.

I would second Karl's reccomendation of contacting Derek Morgan or David Kornely. Both have exceptional animals and both are top notch gentlemen. Send me an e-mail if you need their contact info.

While we're on the subject I always like to hear people's thoughts or opinions about their experience with any of the Atheris species. Do they gape a lot like in Al's videos? They seem like they can be real nasty.I find them incredibly awsome, and they have to be some of the coolest lookin snakes!

Some specimens are laid back, others are are very defensive and will strike at the slighest disturbance. The neonates are some of the easiest of all arboreal species to get feeding. Most will take right off on either day old pinks, or pink parts. Others that are stubborn will certainly take frogs. All in all, Atheris squamigera are wonderful animals to maintain in captivity, and look spectacular in a naturalistic terrarium.

Much much easier to take care of then most people claim. Bity to an extent but great on a hook and they calm down quickly. I don't understand the viper keepers snakes, he must have wild caught stuff or aggitate them before he shoots his videos.

Yeah I'm pretty most of Al's Atheris are imported. He definatley wouldn't aggitate them befroe he filmed. If anything he doesn't even like to upset them.

John:
I find there is little difference between WC & CB regarding being "pissy" I have some that are laid back and some that strike all of the time, it's more of an individual trait. I DO NOT piss my animals off to get them to strike for "FUN". I will do it to get them to feed for me if they are reluctant.
