I know, some of you are probably thinking "Not this again." I am not trying to stir a debate, but I have heard a rumor f a venomoid keeper in my area who has couple cobras with the venom glands entirelyremoved, but the are now producing venom, somehow using their salivary glands. I admit, this sounds like an idiotic question, but I read the older post that said the duct can regenerate, but is there any information on the entire gland regenerating? I have never heard of anything like this, and only recently got interested enough in hot snakes to find out venomoids actually exist and aren't ust a story, and was wondering if there could be any substance to this rumor. Thanks

How do you know the snakes are producing venom? Has it been confirmed? Venom glands will not rejenerate, but if they were not properly removed, then they may be able to heal enough to produce a modified venom of sorts. The saliva glands won't produce venom, but will surely continue producing saliva.
Rejeneration is what lizards can do when their tails have been severed. Healing is what happens to damaged tissue in snakes. Scar tissue is what takes place of damaged tissue. Glands and ducts can rejenerate back to normal capacaity, if at all.
It's a possibility that the procedure was not done effectively or properly, and the glands weren't completely removed. Who did the work?
Either way, your friend had better be careful with those snakes. I still wouldn't feed them live prey.

Thanks, Jaffo. Your answer is about whatI thought, but with the story out there, I thought I'd see if there was anything to it. This admittedly is a handed down story-my friend is the one who originally heard the story from the keeper -and the keeper is probably the one with the crossed story. It was probably botched duct surgery, and they healed. Apparently, the way the man found out was when it envenomated a mouse. I thought something sounded pretty weird with this story, but don't know enough about hots or venomoids to call it a false story,(I didn't even know venomoids would survive till recently) just thought it was worth looing into. Thanks for the reply..
