I am new to the east coast, and i live in apartments in chester va, near richmond and i have a pond in the back, like maybe 10 yds away, fed by a creek. theres lots of green and i was wondering if there would be any copperheads here. Ive already cought a black rat snake, quite a nice snake also. I was also wondering, what else i might have back here, already see a bunch of sliders and other species of turtles, LOTS of frogs, i believe leapord

HI S4L, IF YOU'RE WONDERING ABOUT COPPERHEADS AROUND HERE, IT IS POSSIBLE TO FIND THEM, HOWEVER IT IS VERY UNLIKELY YOU WILL SEE THEM. I LIVE IN CHESTER AS WELL AND I HAVE NEVER FOUND THEM HERE. I HAVE, HOWEVER, FOUND THEM OFF OF I-95 ABOUT 15 MINUTES SOUTH OF HERE. YOU WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO BE LOCATED IN HYDE PARK/ASHTON CREEK APARTMENTS, WOULD YOU? I ASSUMED YOU MIGHT BE AS I USED TO LIVE OVER IN THAT AREA AND THERE WAS A POND FED BY A CREEK THERE......LOTSA TURTLES. COPPERHEADS ARE EXCELLENT SNAKES, BUT THEY ARE NOT GOOD PETS IF YOU HAVE NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH VENOMOUS.

wow, yea I am living there, haha, what apartment number did you live in? I just moved here a couple months ago. Don't know how herp'n is here, see lots of potential prey items. Glad to find someone else who lives here also. (seems like no one knows anything, atleast my age, about snakes in general, I had a guy name a black rat snake, a copperhead...)

LOL---I USED TO LIVE IN 4114-R. I ALSO LIVED IN 4120 WHEN I WAS THERE......I LIVED IN HYDE PARK FOR LIKE 2 AND A HALF YEARS WITH MY EX-FIANCEE. I MISS THAT PLACE--VERY SNAKE FRIENDLY. I KEPT A FEW WATERSNAKES THERE, AND A GREEN SNAKE, AND A LOT OF WORM SNAKES. AND BABY BLACK RATS......LOL. ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT LOCAL SNAKE HUNTING JUST ASK...EMAIL AT SNAKOFILE@AOL.COM.
